Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) was founded in 1927 by Juan Terry Trippe and became one of the pioneering and leading airlines of the United States. Pan Am was the world's first widebody aircraft operator when it introduced the Boeing 747 in 1970 but it also flew several other widebody airliners, including the Airbus A310. In 1991 the airline went bankrupt after many years of financial trouble. The photograph shows a Pan Am Airbus A310 approaching London Heathrow Airport.
